UNSUPPORTED SOFTWARE: USE AT OWN RISK

A Faster, More Memory-efficient Version of FRAGSTAT

If you are interested in running fragstat on large images (several times larger than available RAM memory on your machine, for example), you can try this version. Currently, support for reading and writing files is only available for Idrisi images. If there is sufficient demand, I can be convinced to implement the rest of it.

How to get it

Visit the page http://www2.biology.ualberta.ca/jbrzusto/ftp/fragstat/cookie.html which also describes an image-extraction tool you might find useful in connection with fragstat.

How it works, briefly

All algorithms were re-written to operate directly on run-length encoded images. Images are compressed as they are read from disk, so the amount of RAM used, except in the case of extremely noisy images, will be much less.
